Tarot is a form of divination that employs a deck of cards whose symbols can be interpreted using correspondences and intuition. It dates back to at least the mid 15th century, but the majority of modern tarot is based on a 78 card rendition most often referred to as the Rider-Waite deck. Academic scholar and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn Arthur E. Waite commissioned visionary artist and fellow member Pamela "Pixie" Colman Smith (pictured here) to collaborate on the project. Her 78 paintings that create the major and minor arcana still captivate our imaginations to this day. This infamous collaboration (that too often leaves Pixie Colman Smith sorely under credited) was first printed by William Rider & Sons Publishing in December of 1909.
